After considering the question off andon for about one year, the State Board ofPublic Works has disposed of the matter of the location of the Confederate monument which is to be erected on the Capitol grounds in Charleston, W. Va. The monument will be placed in front of theCapitol on the north side of the main entrance, almost opposite the Governor’s mansion. The Legislature of 1905 passeda resolution giving Charleston Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy permission to place a Confederate monument on the State-House grounds, themonument and inscriptions to be subject to the approval of the Board of PublicWorks, and the board to designate thespot. A contract was closed with Sir Moses Ezekiel for a statue of StonewallJackson by the Daughters, and the statue is now on its way from Italy to this country. The pedestal will be more thanseven feet square at the base and will rise about twenty feet high. The figure of Jackson will be nine feet in height.
