THE ABILENE MORN-HUDSPETH OFFERS A BILL FOR 818,000,000 BORDER HIGHWAYMilitary Road Would Parallel Rio Grande Between Texas Arid Mexico and Continue on to West Coast(By the AssociatedWASHINGTON, April 26.—Authority for the secr«';ii*5 o* wii to spent $18,000,000 for the construction of r military highway paralleling the Rio Grande border between Texas and Mexico and that portion of the United States between Mexico and New Mexico. Arizona, and California was asked in a bill introduced today by Representative Hudspeth, democrat, Texas.The measure would provide that the counties and states through which the proposed highway would(traverse grant right-of-way for a 16-foot road free to the federal government. In the bill, it is pointed cut that citizens living near the border have suffered “many indignities and raids by lawless Mexican bandits, losing much property and a number of lives.“The highway, the bill said, “is a purely military proposition of raa-j tional defense, and, from, the stand-| point of state or individuals, would be of no great amount of monetary value to Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California.8R.IBotyChatalt'Cooff
