(AP)—A bridegroom of a month was killed when his P-84 ThunderJ^t sheared the tops off seven trees and crashed in dense woods here late today.Lt. John E. Maloney, public relations officer at Dow Air Force Base here. Identified the dead fighter pilot as Lt. Herbert F. Hawes, jr., 27, of Homestead Park, Pa.Hawes was married last month to MLss Barbara Stevens of Eaust Holden, near Bangor.He served in the South Pacificin World War Two.Cause of the crash—first to lake a life since the Thunder jets started operating here last November—was not immediately determined.Air force officers said the plane hurtled through the woods for 300 feet, shearing off both wings.Searchers reached the wreckage about two hours after Hawes had radioed the base he was in trouble.Planes spotted the wreckage and directed ground parties to the scene.
