For this heroic performance he was recently awarded the silver star for gallantry in action.Private Sase is a veteran of major campaigns along the Fifth army front in Italy. The action for which, he was cited occurred when the 442nd combat team was taking part' in the bitter and final offensive in northern Italy.In the vicinity of Mount Fol-gorito. Italy, Private Sase volunteered for the hazardous task of leading his platoon out of, a bar-raged' area' when his platoon was pinned down by. enemy fire. Realizing the necessity for immediate action and with complete disregard fox' his own personal safety, Pvt. Sase advanced alone and wiped out two machinegun crews and forced another to displace, thereby enabling his platoon to advance out of the barraged. area.His citation reads: “When hisplatoon was pinned down on April 5, 1945, in the vicinity of Mount Folgorito, Italy,.
