HOLD SERVICES IN HONOR OF WILLIAM SMITHMemorial cervices for Pfc. William it, Smith, 20, who was reported killed in action in the southwest Pacific after having been reported missing since May 21, 1943, will be held at 2:30 p. m. Sunday in the Lewis Memorial chapel, with Rev, Willard R. Thomas of the Harrod Christian church officiating.Veteran organizations participating in the service include the Edward J. Veasey post 1275, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the William Paul Gallagher post 96 of the; American Legion. Ship Nine of the Navy club, and their auxiliaries. P£e. Smith, a bombardier stationed in New Guinea, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Berlin E. Smith ■ of 169 Dewev-av. In addition to j his parents he is survived hv five! brothers. Sgt. Robert M. Smith. U. S Army Air Corps, Russell E. Smith. F-lc. IT. S. Navv, Roger, Rodney and Randall, all 'at home:1 and two sisters, Vivian and Vjr-s ginia, also at home.He^had entered military service Jan. 7, 1942, and had been overseas since March of that year. While! based with a bombing sQuadron in Australia, - he had received a wound in the leg and had been awarded the Purple Heart medal.
