(AP) -A large piecdf of polyethylene plastic, found with the new debris at the scene of the submarine Thresher sinking, showed charred spots, indicating it was burned “in a rush of flame” a Naval Court of inquiry was told today.The plastic piece, about 18 inches square, was introduced as evidence at the resumed hearings at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.Frederick L. Downs, a chemist who is conducting tests on the debris, testified the plastic was of the type commonly found in submarines of the Thresher class.
