Private Wesley H. Volkert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Volkert of Aurelia, was reported among those injured in battle on the island of Iwo Jima in the Pacific. His left leg was injured by Jap mortar fire March 2, and he was operated on March 28. His last letter written April 8 to his parents here stated that he was as yet unable to walk, and that he was in a hospital on the island of Hawaii.
