Bravery On Battle Field Is RecognizediWith The 109th Infantry Division in Germany—Technical Sergeant William C.; Davis, of Morrill, :Nebi\, ran a gimntlet of intense ! enemy burp-gun and machine-gun •fire for 300 yards to save the lives I of four men of his platoon. For his i valiant heroism; he has been a-' warded the Bronze Star by the j Commanding General of the 106th j(Lidn) Division.On the morninjr of December 23, :1044, Sergeant Davis' company of i the 424th Infantry Regiment, 106th i Division, was ordered to take up a new position because of the infiltrating groups 'of Germans. In i spite of the fact that everyone else iwas moving out, Sergeant Davis re-j fused to go until satisfied that one ! of his outposts of four men, who {were presumably lost, could not be I saved. Crawling and running, he crossed 300 yards of open field through a hail of enemy fire— found his men—and informed them of the situation,Working carefully, the four men, led by Sergeant Davis, made the {trip back to their company without any casualties although they were subject to heavy enemy fire most of the time.This act not only saved the four I men from possible death or capture,gttrviMP*roviwMira*l,itTvieiVniA\118 ibut also inspired the other men (ofieIs19Hthe company when they counterattacked and threw back the enemy. Davis of Moravia.Sergeant Davis is a member of the fighting 108th (Lion) Division which took the brunt of .Von Rund-.stedt’s Ardennes counter-offensive {and engaged outnumbering Panzer and Volksgrenadier Divisions for the priceless days that were needed to disrupt the German ‘‘Grab Plan.”Among the first to return to the attack, the 106th drove relentlesslyin liquidating the Bulge.
