held Saturday.SQUIRREL HUNTERS.The legislature made an appropriation of $i ooo a year ago for the Squirrel H inters, and practically all of the money has been used up. Some seven or eight years ago, at the behest of these patriots an allowance of $5,ooo was made so that all who participated in the Squirrel Hunter campaign could get $13 for the mouth’s service they gave the state when it was feared General Kirby Smith intended to invade it from the south. At each session demand has been made for money, and already many thousands have been appropriated, but it seems that not one-half of the Squirrel Hunters have been paid, and just when the state will get them all compensated is problematical. Not one of these defenders of the Union ever discharged a gun in their service. In numbers they seem to be multiplying, because each year the number applying for the $13 is larger than for the preced-ing year.—Eugene B. Stoddard and Mrs. Etta Wilcox were married by Rev. Kelser Thursday.
