DEATH OF COL. BASS.We ere grieved to have to report tbe deetli of Col. Sion S. Bass, of this city, Colonel com-mending tbe 30th Indiana regiment io tbe desperate and bloody battle at Pittsburgh. Inthat encounter he wae seriously wounded by aMinnie ball in tbe upper part of the thigh, and died at Paducah from the efleets of the wound yesterday morning. Hia wife had been tele* graphed and hastened to meet him at that place, but we presume she was denied the sal iafaotion of aeeing him alive, aB it ia not probable ahe could have reached Paducah before bis death. He waa a native of Livingston Co. Ky.. and waa reared within twelve miles of the place whcre he died, hie father still living there. We have not learned whether his remains will be brought her* lor interment, or whether he will reel in the land of hia nativity, among his kin* dred.Col. Baaa wae in hie 34th year, and has resi-dad here tinea 1849. He was a high minded honorable man, and univeraally esteemed by our citizens, ia a soldier he waa idolized by his man, and won the reaped and eBtecm of his Mnior officers by hia cool courage, gallantry, military knowledge, and fino aoldierly qualities, waa acknowledged to be one of the beat officers our atate could boast of*, cut dowu in his prime, with all iife’a bright visions before him, and before he had an opportunity to-win the distinction which would assuredly have evowned his military career, hia untimely end will be lamented by hia numerous warm lriendband afflicted family.“They, who Tor their country die.Shell Allen honoredgreve,Fee glory Ughte the soldier’* tomb,And heouty weeps the brat
