He is also an honorary member of the American Athletic Association and has trained several champion wrestlers in this country.Mr. Steinmetz was 17 years of age when he started training and at the age of IS enlisted in the German army and at the end of his four year term was a topason’s First Salmonsargeant,” IVhen in training he won a medal for lifting a 75-pound weight over his head 32 times with one hand and also by lifting 270 pounds.During his serving in the capacity of president of the athletic association in that country, Mr. Steinmetz received, numerous awards from the king of Bavaria for the training of men.At the age of 35 -he Quit wrestling and while still holding his titles, came to this country.He says that after a man becomes about 30 or 3 5 years of age his constitution will not stand up under the strenuous work of a champion athlete, regardless of how well he might know the game his heart and lungs will not standfor it.Mr. Sieininelz now spends his time operating a soft drink parlor at 217 Third street.
