1000 Work On Barton BaseMy Field Near Great Bend Going; UpGroat Bend—More than 1,000 men, and some women are at work on the buildings at Iho new army air baao here, the new field hummihg with activity in the effort to complete it as quickly as possible,Between 50 end ?5 more men can be used, unci the contractors are doubling shifts to make. up for the shortage of help. Although there are no regular 24-hour shifts scheduled, a number of the workers are taking advantage of all possible daylight hours for work, tmd occasionally work after dark to finish up some phase of the work,The sir. field Is Illuminated at night from one ohd to tho other, primarily as a safety measure, for tho field is closely guarded night and d^y.The framework for nearly all; the new barracks has been erected, and most of them arc sided up, Construction . is now under Way on the theater auditorium. One hangar has been completed, and work is progressing on the others.The hospital area la in the north end of the base, while ot the sonlh end is the warehouse area. Tho big warehouses soon will be completed and ready for storage of the quartermaster’s department and other equipment.
