HERO’S MEMORY HONOREDReturned Soldier’s Day at First Methodist ChurchSoldier’s Day was observed by appropriate services at the Firsit Methodist church last Sunday. At the Sunday School hour the largest crowd was assembled that was ever present at a Sunday Schol service at the First Methodist church. The auditorium. Sunday School room were both Silled, with a number i the balcony and a number in the balcony and a number standing throughout the closing exercises. It was announced that the Sunday School drive would close next Sunday and that an attendance of 801 Instead of 701 was expected on that cayAt the preaching service the audience again overflowed into the Sunday School room Returned soldiers acted as collectors and ushers A section of reserved seats was occupied by returned solc'Jers and sailors and their friends Martial hymns were sung The splendid orchestra directed by Miss Bush played the Marsellaise very effectively Rev. Cullom H. Booth the pastor spoke to the soldiers and their friends on ‘-The War in Which There is no Discharge ” A very beautiful feature was the de-mohilizaiuon of twenty-seven service stars on lt;tho service flag representing the number of men. who have already b«m discharged from the service. Twenty-one stars had already been demobilized in a former service making forty-eight Mars that have been demob-'lized in the service flat, of this cliun.i-. The most touching feature of this service was the adding of a gold flag in honor of First Lieutenant Robt B. Gilbreath who was killed in notion. As the gold star was being pinned to the flag the congregationMood with bowed heads while Mr. Arthur Layton sounded taps. Lieutenant Gilbreath is the only member of this church to dio in battle. He was a teacher at the Slate Home prior to his enlistment. He wag a graduate of the Southwestern University and an unusually fine young mam Supt.
