Death of Caleb Jewett., la a late Issue of the Review published at Elmhurst, California, we find the following notice of the death of a.'former well known Linn Countian.. . A good man went from eaith to his final reward last Saturday, when Caleb Jewett died at Hayward. Mr. Jewett was well known to a large number of Elmhurst people, among whom he lived*, for several years. He was a native of Palmyra,' Maine, where he was boro eighty-two years ago, His life occupation was farming, in which he lead an active career for many -years., In early manhood he migrated to • Wisconsin, and for over , twenty years waB a resident of that state. Going then to Iowa be remained there for sixteen years, when he turned his~ face to the ultimate west and came to California. The golden state has old!mod. him as a resident ever since he landed here, and In various sections be has pursued his career as a tiller of the soil, until a few years ago, when -by reason of advancing age bo retiredrfrom an active life.Seven years ago bo located in Elm-: hurst, where bis daughtor, the late Mrs. J. B, Ayres roalded. After her [death be left Elmhurst and since then has. passed 'his tlmo at* Frultvalo,Healdsburg and Hayward. At the time of his death he was living with - his widowed daughter, Mrs, Nellie L. Tweedleon her farm la Castro Valley, jdst outside of the town of Haywards, ^He.leaves a widow, one daughter aud two sons E, D. Jewett of Covington, [Louisiana, and W. D, Jewett of Hay-. wards, California, A brother Captain ID. G. Jewett, a veteran of the Civil, war survives him and Is a resident of San .' FranolHOO. Another brother, John N.
