Sergeant George B. McGee Placed j in Charge of the LocalStation.A United States Marino recruiting office wap established in this city yesterday. Sergeant George B. McGee of Buffalo, who wps head of the former recruiting office here, is in charge.Arrangements for the opening of a recruiting station here werlt;? made last week by Capt. William K. Parker of Buffalo and offices were secured at No. 214 Kirk building. An office in the postoffice building is also at the disposal of the recruiting station.Sergeant McGee is well known in this city, lie has been a member of the marine corps for more than twelve years. He has the distinction of being the first American to hoist th© Stars and Stripes on the Isthmus of Panama. This was in 1903 when the United States began the work of digging the ' canal.Dr. William J. AyJtng has been named as official medical examiner for the Syracuse district.Five men applied yesterday and today but all were rejected. The minimum age limit is 19 years while tho maximum Is 35 years. Applicants who are accepted here must go to the main office at BuffIo and if they pass the ; examination there they are sent to Norfolk, Va., and are subjected to another examination. ♦ —-—-
