Enlistments Show increase In PatriotismIncreased enlistment in the National Guard by young Kossuth Countians indicates increased patriotism and good military benefits, according to a recruiter from the Algona National Guard Armory.Sgt. Darrell Green reported that enlistment at Battery B was 20 from October, 1982 to March,. 1983; this year in the same period. 30 .enlisted . and 6 more are signing up now.“There's more patriotism in these young people today, they've forgotten about the whole Viet Nam experience and they're looking to further their educationGreen said. He noted bonuses for enlistment of $2,000 cash or $4,000 in educational assistance.Enlistment at Algona’s armory is 103,8 percent of its goal—higher than any other in the 5-armory battalion. Currently 82 are enlisted through the Algona armory, Green said.Military is an important part of Kossuth County’s economy, he noted. In one weekend local armory payroll is about $7,500 and $350 is spent at local grocery stores.
