[.Cornett deoftrted from this life at ohe age of,-7\.-years at the family 'residence iu Los Angeles where .They have resided for twenty-two : years. Fur'*ral services were held Saturday morning \pril 6, at St. Cecelia Cathedral, Los Angeles.[CaliforniaMrs. K. M. Cornett, her husband and family were all pioneer settlers ?n Sirni Valiev, Ventura Countv, California. They hrft Audrain Countv, Missouri. in Mav 18.SO, hv erni-grant train to Xewhall. California. They then proceeded hv stage to Saticov where Mrs. Cornett and her familv resided for a while with her sister, Mrs. Joe Dunn and herfamilv, who settled in the Valleyin 1S7R. Later they located on the! Ham])ton Ranch, now called the John Donlon Ranch, near New Jer-usalem or El Rio. Bariev and wheat :%farming and live stock raising were the chief occupations amongthe settlers. Where there was then cactus, sage brush and high mustard. there are now groves of oranges and other fruits.♦of a helping hand or a comforting word in sickness or sorrow. She was only ill a few days. With her at the time of her illness and during her passing were her sister,litlt;IhiciMrs. Catherine Dunn, and her six sons.Mrs. Cornett is survived by her two sisters, Mrs. Catherine Dunn, of Los Angeles, California; and Mrs. Ben Marry of St. Louis, Missouri; six sons, Harry, Frank. Leif. William. Walter and Elton Corn eft and thre grandchildren. Jack Cornett. In 1SS4 during heavy* J wrains, thev were hooded out of their home and had to move to theJohn Mahan ranch where thev re-%rnained until the storm was over. Late in the year 1985 thev moved•*. ■ - ** ■ - . ' r'-j-' vj Mr:.info the Simi Valley. Their neighbors at that time consisted of the three Taylor boys, Mud. Frank and Joe, who farmed the upper end of the valley to barley and wheat; Charlie Hoar, who then lived in what is now called the Humming Birds Nest; the Jauregui family, sheep men. who resided on what is now known as the Sfrathern Ranch, and J. Y. Saviors, who farmed the present Mard Ranch. Soon after the Cornetts settled in Simi Valley. Mr. Easley and his familv located in the Svcamorelt;pT ” ~r~ v'--'- ” . S’-'Canyon. where Eddie Maier’s Ranch is now located, and conducted an apiarv.There were no schools in the valley then and Mr. Cornett and Mr. Easlev hired the first schoolwteacher in Simi Valley to teachtheir children. Thev held school•»under an old oak free in the canyon where the Eddie Maier ranch is now located. Newberry Park, some fifteen miles distant on one of the old stage lines now familiarly known as Ventura Boulevard,was the nearest postoffice. Huene-me. about thirty five miles west, was the closest trading center to the valley and the nearest place where medical aid could he had. The Cornett family left Simi Valiev in the year 1902 and moved to Los Angeles where they have since resided.Mrs. Cornett will he missed hvthe manv friends that she has%much' in the community where she lived so many vears. She was a noble loving Christian and never faltered when there was the needtura county, possess the greatest possible attraction to visitors from the East and Mid-West, according to Donald M. Welch, general mana ger of the Meline organization Welch declares it is the ultimate aim of the Meline Company to make Pierpont Bay a thriving beach city, to appeal both to the person in search of a day’s recreation. as well as to the man of family who wishes to make the beach his permanent home. There is a large business center at Pierpont May in addition to the amusement and recreational features. These include a children’s playground, fully equipped, wide promenade, hath house and cafe. According to the report of the V. S. Croverninent, Pierpont May is second to none in point if safety, owing to the entire freedom from ground swells with the bathers being able to wade out a long distance from shore before reaching deep water Eight residences are now being constructed in Pierpont May. with plans for 16 adidtional homes to be started within a short time.
