Hirschel Deffenbaugh, 21, who was killed in action February 22 on Iwo Jima, have been learned here at this time. The message was received last week by his parents, Mr and Mrs, William Deffenbaugh, of Rock Island.In the U. S. Marines for two and one-half years, the young man was a tank welder. He had lived in Galva, attending schools here until about four years ago when the family moved to Rock Island.Three other orothers are in service overseas, Rich rd and Clifton, and Merlin, who worked at the Galva Cafe at one time. There are two children at home, Imogene and Therney.Sgt. Deffenbaugh’s grandmother, Mrs. Austin Carman, and uncle, John Deffenbaugh, live in Galva. jII:
