As war was not declared j until June lih 1*1-, some may not re-j gard this as a part of the War of 131-1. With due defereuce to the opinion* of all who differ from me, I regard it as a j part of that war. Isom Stroud is bur- j ied in the Marengo cemetery.James Suddartb. father of I). 13. ' Suddartb, of Euglish, and William 13. Johnson, my own father, both of whom under (Jen. William H. Harrison and Governor Shelby of Kentncky helped chase the British (Jen. Proctor a short time after Perry * victory of September 10, 1;*13. on Lake Erie, are both buried in the Marengo cemetery. I think Samuel Neal also is buried in Crawford county. I frequently heard my father aay that he crossed the lake in one of the vessels engaged in that battle and that the seamen yet had the cotton in their ears that they had in them during the battle.
