Bronze Star For S-Sgt. PancoastS/Sgt James W. Pancoast whose | wife, Thelma and small daughter i Sandy, are living at 6 Ford Ave., 'received the Bronze Star for mere-torious service in action against the enemy on July 10th, 1944 near \ Sainteny, France, j The citation reads: “S/Sgt Pancoast was leading his section of heavy machine guns in support of |another company pinned down by heavy cross fire from enemy machine gun mortars when the gun-,ner of the leading unit was hit. S/Sgt Pancoast, unmindful of the great risk involved wormed his way across the field of tire, se-j cured the gun and placed it in • action. He continued firing until he was knocked down by enemy ' mortar fire. His heroic action en-labled the forward men of his com-pany to reform their lines and drive the enemy back. S/Sgt Pan-coast’s outstanding devotion to j duty and personal disregard for personal safety merit the highest praise.” |S/Sgt Pancoast entered service November, 1942 and was sent overseas in March, 1944. At present he is a member of the Physical Training Staff in a hospital in Enerland.
