HERO OF TWO WARSCelebrates His 77th Birthday.James H. Curts, who returned from the West in February last and has since been living at the Weaver hotel, passed his 77th mile post, Sunday. He has four sons, all in the West except Artemus Curts, who is located in New Albany. Mr. Curts has had an interesting experienee. He was a member of the Second Indiana Volunteers and served over a year under Gen. Taylor in the Mexican war, being in the noted battle of Buena Vista. He served three years in the civil war and helped fight the battles of Ft. Donaldson, Shilon. Vicksburg and Yazoo City. Be ran the blockade at Vicksburg as a pilot and served in the Quartermaster's, Commissary and Hospital departments. He prefers to j live independent of aid from his chil-j dren and friends. He is a good Mason i and a man of truth and honor. He is not able to work but employs his leis- ! ure moments reading. He still enjoys life at his advanced age, being young in thought and feeling.
