Peace River’sFirst StampedeGoes Over TopPeace River’s first big stampede, held Tuesday and Wednesday, was without a doubt the most successful show of the kind everstaged in the north. Despite the fact that farmers in all parts of the district were working from daylight until dark, making the most of perfect weather to get their threshing done, the attendance, especially on Wednesday, was gratifying to the committee who are to be congratulated upon the success of their efforts. During the afternoon over a hundred carswere parked in the vicinity of the large arena on the agricultural society grounds where the stampede took place.The co-operation of stockmen was shown by their appearance in numbers from practically every ranching area of the north.Highest honors in the competitions went to Jim Hogg, of Good-fare, Alberta, who won the W. H.Wilson cup, and a generous cash prize, with the title of best cowboy in the north. Charlie Ward, of Hines Creek, was second, and Pat Lambert, of Peace River, third. The entry list was long and included a number of riders of proven ability at the Calgary Stampede and other large rodeos of the west, the result being two full days of genuine western entertainment. Another rider whowas worthy of special mentionbut who did not get into the finalswas Jonas Webber, of La Glace. Webber gained considerable pro-minance at Calgary stampedes.
