Sept. 27, 1997, Joan Elaine Cessna and Jeremy Lee Sturtz were united in marriage during a double ring ceremony which took place at St. Mark’s of New Buena Vista with Pastor Kerry Cathers officiating. The wedding music was provided by Patty Robb. Zane Bagley and Cathy Bush.The bride is the daughter of Dorian and Martha Cessna of R.D. 3. Bedford. The bridegroom is the son of Cathy and Sheldon Benton of R.D. 1, Everett, and Gary and Aileen Sturtz of Hynd-man.Given in marriage by her parents and escorted to the altar by her father, the bride wore a satin and Battenburg lace gown with a high illusion neckline, traditional straight sleeves, a basque waist accented with a bow in the back and a full skirt that flowed into a semi-cathedral train trimmed with lace, pearls and sequins. The fingertip veil was held in place by a floral headpiece of pearls and sequins. The bride’s jewelry was a pair of diamond earrings, a special gift from her father.The bride carried a traditional cascade bouquet of white roses, burgundy mini-carnations, white and yellow daisies, accented with purple statice, baby’s breath, ivy, pearls and white ribbon. The bridesmaids carried round bouquets of burgundy mini-cama-tions, white and yellow daisies, accented with purple statice and baby's breath.Beth Cessna, sister of the bride, was the maid, of honor. Bridesmaids were Mindee McDonald, cousin of the bride; Stephanie Cessna, sister-in-law of the bride; and Lori Miller, friend of the bride. Jeff Sturtz, brother of the bridegroom, was the best man. Groomsmen were Brad Turner, Shane Bingman, and Eric Jenk-STURTZJoan and Jeremyins, all friends of the bridegroom. The flower girl was Marissa Miller, friend of the bride and bridegroom, and the ring bearer was Joshua Wakefield, cousin of the bride. The guestbook attendant was Heidi Rinehart, cousin of the bride.Following the ceremony, a buffet dinner reception was held at the Schellsburg Fire Hall. The catered meal was prepared by Debbie Dunnivan. The wedding cake was made by the bridegroom’s mother, Cathy Benton. Dan Wakefield provided the music for the reception and videotaped the ceremony. Dave Duncan of Duncan Studios was the photographer.The bride wras honored at two bridal showers. The first was hosted by Brenda Nolan, AnnSuter and Julie Hott, co-workers of the bride, at the home of Brenda Nolan. The second bridal shower was hosted by the maid of honor and the bridesmaids at the home of Kay Cessna, grandmother of the bride.The bride is a 1994 graduate of Bedford High School and a 1996 graduate of Allegany College of Maryland. She is employed as a medical secretary by the Children’s Medical Group, Cumberland. The bridegroom is a 1993 graduate of Hyndman High School and a 1997 graduate of Allegany College of Maryland. He is employed by Bayliner Marine Corporation of Cumberland.Following a honeymoon in the Poconos, Joan and Jeremy are residing in Tiger Valley near Hyndman.
