The five deaths raised the Virginia traffic loll to 570 — Identical with the county last year.Two persons had died earlier of injuries received in the head-on crash which look the life rf Walls. Nancy Blevins, 18, of Shady Valley, Tcnn.. and J. B. Greer, 21, of Rt. 2. Damascus, had died shortly after the crash' Saturday night on u. s. 19-56 a mile east of Damascus.Injured In the accident and still in critical condition in jhe hospital here were Paul Slengall, 17, of Shady Valley; Wade Lewis, 21, R. c. Lewis, 21, and Edgr Walls, 18, all of Rt. 2, Damascus.The accident happened about 9:50 p. ni. Saturday night on a straight stretch of the two-lane highway.Police said the Steagall hay and the Blevins girl . apparently were the only occupants of one of the cars aud were heading west toward Abingdon. The other car, with the five Damascus youths, was heading east.State Trooper R. L. Kelly said Stegall was the driver of the westbound car and that Greer apparently was at the wheel of the other car. The vehicles ca together in the middle of the road. Stegall and Miss Blevins were pinned Inside their’ auto mobile. Most of the occupants oi the Greer automobile wore thrown out onto the highway.Both automobile.s were demolished in the collision. The young victims were rushed to the hos pi I at here via ambulances and private automobile. Miss Blevins was dead on arrival; Greer riled shortly after admission. Walls died at 2 a. m. Shirley Edward Davis, 18, of Ar-oda, listed as the owner of the car, was a passenger when the accident occured, police said. He received minor injuries. Trooper P. C.
