Berning-Schafer Vows Saidn Deerfield Church RiteThe wedding of Larry Eugene Schaier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger S. Schafer, Princeton, and Miss Penny Lorraine Berning,daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Karl Ives Berning, Deerfield, was an event of Saturday, Aug. 21. Vows were exchanged at 4 p.m., Trinity United Church of Christ, Deerfield, the Rev. Pnillip busenis performing the ceremony.lt; lt;Mrs. Keith R. Soderberg, Princeton, was soloist, singing Because,” and “One Hand,One Heart,” and “Wedding Prayer.” She was accompanied by organist, Mrs. Donald Brown. Sanctuary decorations were arrangements of whitegladioli and two candelabras with ligtited tapers.Mr. Berning escorted hisdaughter to the altar, the bridewearing a white peau de soie gown, enc rusted with seedpearls, cut in a simple line with an open neckline aid short sleeves. Descending in back was an aisle-wide ehapel-length train. Her illusion veil was held by a tiara of woven seed pearls, complemented by a pearlbracelet, a gift of the bridegroom, and a pearl necklace. She carried Amazon lilies in a cascade bouquet.Taking part in her brother’s wedding was Miss ConnieSchafer, Princeton, who stood as bridesmaid with Miss Linda Mikkelsen, Cedar Kails, Iowa,and Miss Charlotte Farnsworth,Normal. Maid of honor was MissKaren Kinney, Deerfield. Cindy Mikkelsen was the tlower girl. They all wore floor-length gowns of olive green crepe, fashioned with Empire waistlines and elbow-length sleeves. Their flowers were unusual arrangements of Bells of Ireland blue cornflowers and asters in cascades.OttierPrmcetonians taking part in the wedding service were Richard Gross, best man, and Robert Diller, groomsman. Also chosen as groomsmen were Ben Welch, Normal, and Randy Berning. Steven Fay, cousin of the bridegroom, son of Mr. and Mrs. Orval Fay, was ring tx^arer, and ushers were Larry Lamb and Tom Olson, Normal and Grant Berning, Deerfield.The Charcoal House in Waukegan was the place of receptionand dinner for 375 relatives and friends attending to congratulate Mr. and Mrs. Schafer, who left later on a wedding trip to Wisconsin.Mrs. Schaier graduated from Illinois State university, and lsassigned to teach physical education at Danvers Community school, 11 miles west of Bloomington.
