Karlen were married this forenoon and they have started 011 a wedding tour to New York. This is a hit of news that their many friends will not be prepared for as their marriage was a complete Hurprino. Something of the kind hadbeen suspected for a long time, lint when the plans were made their nearest friends were not let into the secret.The original program of the parties was to have their wedding late in tho present month and take a trip east, but matters of more remit occurrence in-terferred with their plans. Business requires the groom to be here next month, arid word from New York which was received this week, called him there sooner than he had intended to go.The bride’s grandmother being very sick at her home a quiet wedding would be necessary, so it was quickly decided to be married at once than to forego the pleasures of the trip that they had planned upon. This was Tuesday- and bride’B family first learned of tho change in arrangements yesterday morning. It was ueeossary to act without delay. There was the marriage license to get and this was procured at 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon. The situation was explained to County Judge J. M. Becker and he granted a special order setting aside the live days that the law requires should pass between the taking out of the license and the ceremony. Appointment was then made with Eev. Alfred Sehnh, of St. John’s Evangelical church, and he reported at tho bride's home at .11 o’clock this forenoon and the marriage then took place. Mrs. Boy Jaberg, the bride's sister, and Mr. Louis Karlen, brother of the groom, supported the couplo. The bride’s parents, the father and hr others of the grooin were the only ones present. The bride wore a very neat gray tailor made suit. Owing to tho lack of time and the haste in preparation the wedding, of course, was a moat simple affair. Added to this was the sickness in the household and altogether the “wedding was one well suited to the circumstances.The bride and groom loft immediately for Clrno, where they had dinner at the homo of the groom’s brother, David Karlen, and they left for Chicagoon the afternoon train 011 the Illinois Central, From Chicago they will go direct to Buffalo, where a sister of the grooin ' resides, and where his mother ia now visiting Leaving. Buffalo they will *• • take a trip down the St. Lawrence river 011 their way to Boonville, It, Y., tho home of an uncle of the grooms. They will then go to Now York, and stopping at other points m the east they will come home through Ohio sometime next month to take possession of a suite of rooms in the Karlen block.Today’s event, while a great surprise to everyone, is none the less agreeable to their friends. The bride and groom are young people who aru well known in Monroe, having lived here all their lives. They are the younger members of two prominent and influential families of the city.The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Henry Hoehn and has a happy disposition that will do much to brighten tho homo of which she is to be the centralfigure.
