More Area Threatened By Floods(By The Associated Press)Flood waters which have disrupted gas and water service to towns in north central xKansas are expected to cover additional acres today.Drinking water is being hauled from Concordia. Kan., to Clyde where the city water system was knocked out Friday. Little Elk Creek which caused the damage receded, but Clyde is due for flooding from Salt Crcjek. This stream was running three miles wide above its junction with the stiff-rising fte’piibh'can River near the west edge of Clyde. Nearly every home and some of the business district was damaged.Flood waters also ruptured an eight-inch natural gas pipeline about five miles east of Concordia! Friday and cut off all service! to the town of 7,500. -The Concordia manager of the Kansas Power and Light Co., said it would probabjy^be Sunday before gas service could be restored. The company called workers from Salina, Belleville and Washington to turn off all gas outlets in town.The north central area got up to 10 inches of rain Thursday night and Friday morning.Nearly every building jjo Holjis. Kan!, was damaged arid the 10(V residents evacuated their homes at 2 a. m. Friday when Salt Creek went on a rampage.U. S. Army helicopters from Fort. Riley, Kan., rescued two farm families near CJifton, Kan., and one highway patrolman got extremely wet in the process. jThe whirlybird was hovering over the home of Mr. and M^s. Harley Garrett, preparing to remove the elderly couple. iPatrolman Don Witham of Clay Center noted that cornstalks in a. field beside the house were sticking out of th§ water about four feet. Witham hopped out of the planer expected to land in water waist deep. He sank below the surface and had to swim to the house. He helped the Garrets out into shoulder-deep water on the, other side of the house. They were hoisted abbord the helicopter by a rescue sling*Gov. George1 Docking has asked the army to survey the flooded areas.
