The guests at the dinner were: Mr. and Mrs. Luther Grantham, Mr. and Mrs. E. O. Grimm, Mr. and Mrs. Lorenz S j Grimm, Mr. and Mrs. George Lyon, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Stewart, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Clauser and Mrs. Buel Emrick. The men of this group take great delight in playing jokes on each other—and no one enjoys a joke more than Charlie Cartwright. ' | Charlie decided that the men should pay for his license, but no hint was given of the approaching marriage. He took Clay Pearson, county' clerk into the scheme and the trick was turned. After dinner, the men strolled up town for a smoke and by chance (?) met Clay, who insisted they come into his office in the court house to seestnh1rithe plans of the Lebanon County Club. While thereV a couple came in f | and procured a marriage license. Clay asked “Cartie” if he didn’t want one. He said he did not, but the men insisted. He told them if they wanted to buy hiiri a marriage license, to go to it. They did. Clay made out thelicense arid Lorenz Grimm pocketed\it. They went to the Grimm home and played bridge during the evening. Evidently the men decided it was rather a serious thing to joke about, and they * never mentioned the license to the bride-to-be till they started for home. Then Lorenz Grimm said to Miss Martha “Here’s something for you” and the crowd departed. Thursday, they learned that Charlie and Martha really wanted the license—and the joke was on them.
