William Armstrong of Virginia, members of whose family j were rectors of the Episcopal / Church 100 years. Mr. Armstrong’s r father, the late Ira L. Armstrong, was one of Birmingham’s most be- j loved citizens. On the maternal ’fide, he is descended from the South Carolina Cothrans andSmiths and is a great-nephew of Judge James S. Cothran of theSupreme Court of South Carolina and of Major Charles H. Smith, widely-known humorist and writerwho was known to his readers as“Bill Arp.’'Mr. Armstrong holds a responsible position with the W. M.
