Both her mother and father are from Lynchburg, Va., and are representativesof the distinguished Virginia families of Carrington. Mosely, Venableand Friend.Like his fiancee, Mr. Armstrong is a member of prominent Southern families, his forbears on both sides liaving been persons of distinction. He is a great-great-nephew of the Rev. William Armstrong of Virginia. members of whose family were rectors of the Episcopal Church 100 years. Mr. Armstrong's father, the late Ira L. Armstrong, was one of Birmingham’s most beloved citizens. On the maternal fide, he is descended from the South Carolina Cothrans and Smiths and is a great-nephew of Judge James S. Cothran of the Supreme Court of South Carolina and of Major Charles H. Smith, widely-known humorist and writerwho was known to his readers as“Bill Arp.*’Mr. Armstrong holds a responsible position with the W. M. Smith Company, being plant superintendent of that organization.—Birmingham News.Mr. Armstrong is the son of Mrs. Armstrong, who was formerly Carrie Smith of Annton. Her family resided in Anniston and had a prominent part in the early history of the city, their home being on Tyler Hill.
