Shift Activities in Filming Of ‘Jesse James” to NeoshoSpecial to The News Herald.Neosho, Mo., Sept. 3.—Activitiesconnected with the filming of themotion picture, “Jesse James,” werecentered here today and a crowdestimated at more than 2-,000 gathered'‘to watch*£he*Msfa6btirig”'’at the Kansas City Southern depot.Director Henry King ordered filming to begin about 10 o’clock this1 morning after waiting an hour in the hope the sun would break through 'threatening clouds. Kleig lights were put into play and action begun on the scene, which contains about 25Q McDonald and Newton county residents as extras.The scene being filmed today depicted the' start of the initial ttip of ‘ the St, Louis Midland railroad between St. Louis and Sedalia, The depot was decorated with1 bunting and carried the letters, St Louis.”The only star called to the set this morning at Nedsho waS Donald Meek, who is cast as president of the railroad. Other leading players were expected to be called later during the day. . .. . . .An antiquated locomotive, with afunnel-shaped stack, and three old-time fragile coaches are being' used in the filming,^he locomotive formerly was operated between Dardanelle and Russellville, Ark. It was built in 1861 and required little reconstruction in preparation for the picture.The train was brought here by Conductor F. A. Logan of Monelt and a crew from Van Buren, Ark., Thursday afternoon. They traveled, Logan said, at an average speed of about 25 miles an hour an had to stop about every 20 miles and oil the engine.The locomotive and coaches will be taken to Southwest City in a few days for a train robbery scene.AnT elderly woman, arriving at 5:28 o’clock this morning on a northbound Kansas City Southern train, was confused, to say the least, when she saw the letters, “St. Louis,” on the end of the depot.She* wanted to ’gbt back on the train, but crew members'* assured her it really was Neosho anlt;J that brie couldn’t believe everything he saw in McDonald and Newton counties these days, what with all the Hollywood “props” and atmosphere.
