Crown Point, the Gretna Green of this part of the country is suffering’ acutely from the slump in the marriage mart, according to County Clerk Alvina Killigrew.The congenial boss of the license bureau here who is Crown Point's leading well-wisher for newlyweds, estimated yesterday afternoon thatshe will issue at least one thousand less marriage certificates this yearthan she did last year.She said she had tied the parchment knot for about 6,000 couples during 1930, but that the total will not exceed 5,000 this year.While she was conversing with the reporter, a young, palpitating couple edged in with evident embarrassment to go through the formality of signing marriage papers.“Good luck to you, Mrs. Killi-grew* said with a motherly smile after she had handed them their license.Turning to the reporter after the pair had beat a hasty, confused retreat from the office, she remarked:“That’s only the second today, whereas, in the past, we usually issued anywhere from 15 to 50 licenses a day.”
