Many friends havq called in person to extend their con-* graulations and others from distant points have sent telegrams. No informal reception has been planned but many of their'warm friends will pay a visit to the happy couple tonight.Mr. Matthews is a wealthy retiredNew York lawyer and like his wife has a host of friends in the city and borough. She was Miss Ellen A. Baldv, daughter of Peter Baldy, a prominent resident of Danville. Pa., and their marriage took place in that city. The couple settled in New York, and when Mr. Matthews had amassed a fortune as a celebrated barrister, they came here in 1885 taking possession of • a handsome home at Grove street and Prespect place, which they have occupied ever since.There are two children from the union. Peter B. Matthews and Mrs. Hegeman, the latter being the wife of former Mayor B. A. Hegeman. Jr., a wealthy commuter.
