Inmate cops plea, takes a wifeIjOVINGTON (AP) — Cecil Rinehart spent a lot of time before judges in one day — from pleading guilty to escape charges to getting married.He pleaded guilty Tuesday before District Judge D.D. Archer of Artesia for a Christmas Eve 1980 escape from the I^ea County Jail.A few hours later, heappeared before Magistrate Drayton Wasson to be married to Sandra Hedrick.Deputy Don Booth, who witnessed the wedding, said Rinehart told hisnew bride he would “love her forever, for the restof his days.”Rinehart is serving a life sentence for the 1969 murder of Phillip Vener of Hobbs.Booth said the bride-to-be waited for hours outside the sheriff’s office for the magistrate to show up and the wedding to begin. She, too, is familiar with courtrooms because she is serving probation on a charge of stealing oilfield equipment, Booth said.The wedding was the second jail marriage for Rinehart. In March 1980, he received a furlough from the Lea county jail to marry another woman he has since divorced.
