Apparently he is as successful In art as he was on the diamond.-Mis# Grace Young exhibits a number of meritorious studies, whioh show a vigor of handling and a fine color sense that promises toiuch for her future.^ Mr. Svendsen’s “Mortgaged” has the true touch of nature in it, though its somewhat repeilant title does not find favor with the public.American pastoral life in the Middle and Southern States still awaits an American Millet or Breton, and perhaps some of the younger artists will achieve more fame in that direction than in the more popular chase after the aboriginal red man. Svend-sen's little picture is a step in the right direction. Valentine's chief work is, of course, in the Rookwood Pottery case, but the same talented artist has an admirable little study of a winter scene, which holds its place among more ambitious efforts of other artists. Both Mr. Gest and Mr. Kaelin are a trifle too advanced In impressionism for the Cincinnati public, yet show individuality and faithful work from nature.D. W. Huntington shows some clever water color work. Both of his game pictures are noteworthy, as well as his corn studies.Mat Daly sends a clever picture that will appeal to those who have ever been In the country when the drought compels the farmers to water their gardens. It Is, however1, not so good as other things he has done.C. S. Kaelin shows two pieces of his work,done somewhat in the style of Courbet. Income ways they are crude, almost of theamateur order, but prove a sincerity andfidelity which indicate that something very good may come from him.POSTERS _H. S. Bridwell exhibits two poster designs that are exceedingly good.The others who have pictures at the exhibition are: A. Biester, E. S. Butler, E. Marie Barnes, Charles Bullet, A. O. Elzner, W. P. McDonald. George Meinshausen, C. A. Meurer, William Meultman, Raphael Strauss, and R. Hammond.,A. O. Elzner has two designs for church architecture that are more than ordinarily clever. Melvir V. Wilson has three pieces of modeling that have drawn attention to her. Her work has remarkable strength and vigor. Mrs. M. L. Storer has at the exhibition several pieces of her work in pottery.The exhibition Kill continue until November 2.
