Two ‘Deputy Sheriffs'In Brookfield TodayA breath of the old West In the roaring days of Jesse James came into Brookfield today in the person of , two bearded, gun-toting deputy sheriffs, fresh out of the movie of thosedays which was filmed at Plneville c recently.When the Hollywood movie moguls! decided to film the life of the historic Missouri outlaw in Pineville, they sent word ahead that anyone growing a 1 beard of acceptable length would be i given a part.Among those who qualified were Anthony Henderson and Henry- Tomp- 'J kins, both of Noel, Missouri. Henderson, in the picture, played the part , of a deputy sheriff who shot one of the James gang during a raid.After the picture wgs finished, Henderson and Tompkins felt the urge to go and see the places that were portrayed in Pineville, so they have been travelling over Missouri to towns and tJ cities rrade famous by the name of James.In the movie, Pineville is supposed to be at Liberty, Missouri. The reason Pineville was chosen for the movie location is that it has the only court house in Missouri which looks like the old Clay County courthouse at Lib-I erty.The two were still dressed in costume and passers-by on Main street i thought for a moment that a bank holdup or a bit of “feuding” was about to begin, particularly as one of them had a mean-looking” revolver on his ! hip.rlt;PI However, they had no such evil in- cj tentions, but were more interested in ej showing kodak pictures of Pineville ^ during its Hollywood days. They said n; that from three to ten thousand people were in the town every day during the a filming, tourists from all over the w j country anxious to see such stars as p Tyrone Power and Henry Fonda.i ciNormally, Pineville has a thriving wCi population of 300.They had just come from St. Joseph i where they visited the house where Jesse James, most famous of the p hard-riding brothers, met his death j a They intended to go to Kearney, Mis- y souri, to see the old Jaimes home, as' p part of their plan to visit the places, y their movie backgrounds represented.: Costumes, beards and accents were ^ i complete, but instead of horses, the j p two did their traveling in a 1938 Ply mouth. Henderson is editor of a paper in Noel. Tompkins, the younger of the two, is only 19 years old.-r-i
