SALEM, Oct. 23.—A. Sutterwaite was hit in the eye with a piece of steel while on duty at the C. E. I. yardy this week. He went to Chicago and took an x-ray and it is feared he will lose his sight. East Road Is Finished. The six and one-half miles slab was finished on the new hard road east of town Wednesday afternoon. This is a big advantage to the farmers along the road as the former road was in very bad condition, especially in the winter. Easley Drilling for Of in Texas. Homer Easley who has been in Mo ran, Tex., for five weeks has returned home. He has been locating and drilling a well for Wm. Lorenzen at that place. He will return Nov. 3 at which time he will start a drilling program. This place is in north cen tral Texas in the shallow oil belt. They have already found two sands carrying oil. Marriage Licenses. Rudolph and Frank Wilson at tended the Odq Fellows’ convention in Springfield this week. (Mr. and Mrs. Stanley and Mr. and Mrs. Foster of Logoda, Ind., have re turned to their homes after a few days’ visit here with Miss Nina Stan ley at the H. D. Bigelow and Jesse Lovell homes. Mrs. W. Young of Davenport, In., is visiting at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.S. Slack. Mr. and Mrs. Jake Vale motored to St. Louis Tuesday. They were accom panied by Mrs. James Wilson wh o will visit there a few days from where she will go to Arizona for her health. Mrs. J. T. Holt and daughter Dor othy and Mrs. Eddie Chance were in Mt. Vernon on business Wednesday. M. D. Stevenson of Stevenson town ship was in town Wednesday. Mrs. Ida Thompson is visiting in Springfield with Mrs. Earl Stewart. Virgil Duncan of Detroit, Mich., is visiting homefolks. Mrs. W. W. Merz visited relatives in Mt. Vernon Wednesday. Irwin Whitlock was in Inn Wednes ay. Sheriff Holcomb of Mt. Vernon was here on business this week. Among those attending the speak ing of Chas. W. Bryan in Fairfield on Tuesday were Rev. Oscar Hawkins, Mmes. Courson, Fitch, Estel Martin, Charles Martin and Miss Nell Moore. Frank Clark was in Mt. Vernon this week. There was no council meeting last Tuesday as there was no quorum. Mark Cunningham was in Centra lia on business Wednesday. Mrs. Emmett Woods and son are visiting relatives in Joppa. Mrs. Lloyd Arnold and children of Chicago are visiting at the Dr. Schoon over home on S. Broadway.
