A number of years ago* he had a quarrel with bis wife, and they separated. He went to California, where he remained until a little over a year ago, when he returned to this city. His wife was at that time living on Portland Avenue with her daughter. Miss Mary. Burk attempted to effect a reconciliation with his wife, but she refused to have anything to do with him, and he took up his residence in another part of the city. Several weeks ago Mrs. Burk was taken ill. and continued to grow, rapidly worse until all hopes for her recovery were. lost. The house in which she lived was hers, but there was some provision in the tide by which it would revert to herhusbaniat her deat^, providing her daughter was unmarried. Wh-ir Mrs. Burk learned that'' her life was drawing to a close she determined to see that her chil i was not left penniless. Geo. Rogers had been visiting Miss Burk for some time, and on Friday the mother sent for him to come to the bouse. He complied with the summons, and she made a request that he be married to her daughter at once. The young couple consented, and a marriage license was procured that afternoon, and they were married immediately. The ceremony took place at the bedside of the dying mother. A few hours after the wedding service Mrs. Burk died. The funeral was arranged to take place yesterday afternoon, and while the friends and relatives of the family were gathering around the cofHn Burk pot in an appearance at the gate intoxicated and created a disturbance, which resulted in his arrest.
