They were there ^'Vdn^'gyta.y with the hope of having Little' fchtf Miss Carrie De-Long married. In’ Wednesday's issue of the Banner an ac’d’otfftt of their efforts was given and tfidy were left •with the sheriff of Allen d’d'nty speeding out the road to the Academy of the Sacred Heart with a writ of habeas ddYjtom,. while the father of the girl Joseph DeLong, was making the' trip about ah hour ahead of them with' a view to taking his daughter away and hiding her at some other place. It seems that the attorneys for Mr. DeLong opposed every conceivable objection to the issuing of the writ by the judge of the Superior court. They fought it on every known ground and it is now thought that they were doing this simply to gain time. While the argument was being made in court Mr. DeLong was on the way to the school to get lVi3 daughter and take her to some plac-^ unknown to Little. In this he was entirely successful and when the sheriff served notice on Sister Borgia, the Sister Superior of the school, he was Informed that the girl was no longer in her custody.and that she could not therefore obey the mandate of the court. The writ applies to no other person and If theplaintiffs want further action they, must first find out where the girl is now in hiding, then get out a newwrit, a process that takes considerable time and is very unsatisfactory, as it gives the father the chance of doing just as he did in this case—taking the girl away before the officer of the court can get on the spot.According to the Ft. Wayne papers, Miss DeLong accompanied her father from the school willingly and seemed perfectly resigned. She did not appear to be anxious to marry Little and went with her father without the slightest opposition. Mr. DeLong did not return from Fort Wayne Thursday. Where his daughter is now located he of course does not say, and it is up to Little to discover if he can. When Harry Little purchased the license it was with the understanding with the clerk that in case they were not used by him he could return them and get his money back. As yet he has not sur endered them and is probably waitiu ; to see what further turn affairs will take.
