Willis Gardner were very much surprised Saturday oveu-Ing about 6 o’clock to get a telegram from Keokuk announcing the marriage of their daughter,.Miss Marion. ,to Archer B. P. Rogers, only .son of Mrs. Edward Rogers, of 162T Maine rtrnet Miss Gardner was invited to a 1 o’clock luncheon Saturday and was thought she had gone, hut instead she had joined Mr. Rogers and In his car they made the trip to Keokuk, arriving there about 3 o'clock. They wore met by Neal Monroe, of this city, Who had gone up on the noon train, and went Immediately to tho parson, age of St. John’s Episcopal church, where they were united in marriage by the reotor. Rev. John 0, Sage. H. W, TJpham, of Keokuk, a brother of W. p. Upbam,' formerly of this city, also witnessed the ceremony with Mr. Monroe. Mr. and Mrs. Rogers left Keokuk on the evening train for St. Paul from whore they will go on an extended Western trip,Mrs. Rogers Is the elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J, W. Gardner, Mr. Gardner being one of the . raoBt prominent business men in Quincy. Sho was educated In the finest schools of this country and Spent , last year In Europe with her sloter, studying and traveling, Her parents Joined them in tho spring, and the family spent about three months in travel. She baa always been a leader in the younger set of this city and, is a very attractive young woman. Mr. Rogers Is the son of the late Edward Rogers, and his mother Is a member of one of the most socially prominent Qulficy families. He has enjoyed every advantage ■that wealth can give. He attended collage In the East and has traveled extensively. Lately he has been on gaged In managing his father’s bnsl-ness affairs. The young people have known each other, all their lives and It has been whispered lately that their engagement would soon be announced.The news of the wedding caused n stir In East End circles and among tho many friends of tlie two families. Their prominence In the business and social life of this city has made them Well known, In’ addition to thoir own engaging personalities. , Tho Gardners, have recently purchased the beautiful old McFadon home on Eifst Maine street^ and there. Is no doubt that It will bo the social center of this city. They are now living In the pearoan home.
