For And A bout WomeiA re HonoredDtOn 50 thAnniversaryOpen House was held recently in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice LaBar observing their 50th wedding anniversary, at American Legion Hall. .Mrs. Betty Lundquist and grandchildren of the honorees, Brian Lundquist and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Ross of Scottville planned the event.-Mrs. LaBar wore a blue lace dress for the occasion and she was presented with a gold cymbidium orchid corsage and Mr. LaBar, a boutonniere, gifts from their daughter.White bells and gold decorations were used throughout the hall.The serving table was covered with white linen cloth, draped with yellow net enhanced with clusters of golden grapes. A large gold flower, arranged in net, formed the backdrop on the wall near the serving table.The tiered cake, placed in the center of the table, was topped with the gold numeral “50”, and crystal candelabra held four golden candles.The decor was completed with bouquets of yellow and gold colored flowers on the guest tables.Presiding at the coffee service during the afternoon were Mrs. Elizabeth, Quigley and Mrs. Hazel Bashaw, close friends of Mrs. LaBar. Punch was served by Mrs. Clifford Lundquist of Custer, niece of the honoredcouple; the anniversary cake was cut and served by Mrs. Ruth Sokup of Grand Rapids, who was bridesmaid at the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. LaBar.Mrs. Sokup was assisted in serving the cake by her daughter, Mrs. Helen Shively, also of Grand Rapids.Sandwiches, cookies, nut-breads, nutmeats and mints also were served.Mrs. Kenneth Ross, granddaughter of the honor ees, was in charge of registering guests.Music was furnished by Gerry Budreau at the organ during the afternoon.Guests attended from Ludington, Grand Rapids, Benton Harbor, Fife Lake, Scottville, Hastings, Big Rapids, Sparta, Kalamazoo, Detroit and surrounding area.Maurice E. LaBar and Mary Hutchison were married on Oct. 1, 1919 at the Methodist parsonage in Ludington by the Rev.
