SALEMPIERCE-BAiRD.A Notable Wedding at the Presbyterian Church.Roakouk Timeb Bubeau, Eotkl Lucerne, Sai.em, Va. \Thursday morning iho Presbyterian Church was well filled with people, principally ladles, to witness the marriage of Mr. William L. Pierce, of I hristians-burg, to Miss Julia Henderson ltaird, daughter of Mrs. A. S. llaird, of Salem,nnd of the late Itev- Dr. B. Thompson Baird, for many years secretary of tho Presbyterian Board of Publication, of Richmond.At fifteen minutes after 11 tho four ushers marched in an took iheir places on either side of tho pulpit, which was decorated with tropical plants. The ushers wero Messrs. Henry T. Stone and B. T. Eliott, of Cbristiansburg; Mr. B. H. Pierce, of Cbristiansburg, a brother of tho groom, and Mr. Sam Terrill, of Salem, a cousin.After these walked tho groom, attended by his brother, Mr. W. M. Pierce. Then came tho bride, dressed in a handsomo traveling suit of gray cloth, with hat and gloves to match, looking very pretty, carrying a bunch of roses in iter hand and escorted by her brother, Dr. T. M. ltaird, until the pulpit was reached, when she took the arm of tho bridegroom, and tbo Rev. J. R. Bridges, in his usual impressive manner, in a few minutes made them man and wife. Rev. G. A. Miller, tbo gifted young pastor of tho Lutheran Church, presided at ho organ in a masterly manner, playing tho Mendelssohn “Wedding March*1 as tho party entered, and tho march from Tannhäuser very softly during tho ceremony, and with a joyous, triumphal swell the march from Lohengrin as the party loft the chinch.Tho bride has only been living in Salem a short time, but lias made many friends by her cultivated and attract!vo manners, and she was tho recinioiu of a largo number of handsome presents.Mr. and Mrs. Pierce, after tho ceremony, drove direct to the clepo:, where they took tho noon train for Lynchburg and from tboro will make a tour of tbo Northern cities and Niagara Falls, returning about tho 5th proximo.
