Ouings-JohnOn Sunday, Sept. 24 at 2 p.m , Miss Nancy Luanne John, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Jean John, New Windsor, became the bride of Harry Carroll Owings, son of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Owings Jr . Westminster R. D. 5. Rev. Larry Fourman, assisted by Richard Blacksten, officiated the double-ring ceremony, held in Pipe Creek Church of the Brethren near New W'indsor. The church was decorated with candlelabras of white gladiolius, orange carnation, baby’s breath, and bronze daisies, palms and ferns.Preceding the ceremony, Calvin Hoy, Union Bridge, soloist sang several selections, accompanied by organist Mrs. Doris Albaugh from near Union Bridge. During the ceremony a special arrangement of The Lords’ Prayer was sung by an octet, directed by Mrs. Bonnie Dubel, Those in the octet were Debbie Sholl, Patty Bowers, Doris Haines, and Pat Null all from Taneytown, Robert Keilholtz, Keymar, Dave Mottor, Taneytown. Kenny Black and Mark Bowser, Union Bridge.The bride, given in marriage by her father, was attired in a traditional floor length gown, designed and made by her. It featured a lace bodice over peau de soie satin with scalloped neckline, and sleeves ending in a point. The bell skirt of matching satin was highlighted with an apron effect in scalloped edge lace with a built in cathedral length train. Her cathedral length veil edged in matching lace was held in place by a Juliet cap. She carried an old-fashioned bouquet of white phileanopsis orchids, and stephanotis, and baby’s breath attached to her Bible.The matron of honor, Mrs. Teresa Storey, sister of the bride, Linwood, wore a floor length orange chiffon gown styled with a standup collar with lace and ribbon bodice trim and an A-line skirt with a full back over-lay panel. Her matching headpiece was of net decorated with lace, seed pearls and ribbon.Miss Martha Owings, sister of the groom, was maid of honor, and Miss Terri Storey, niece of the bride, was flowergirl. Both wore orange chiffon gowns and headpieces styled like the matron of honor. Miss Donna Haifley, and Miss Carol Hesson both of Frizzelburg, were bridesmaids, wearing gowns of apricot chiffon, styled likethe matron of honor. Also wearing a gown of the same color and style was junior bridesmaid, Miss Ann Claypoole, New Windsor, niece of the groom. The attendants all carried old-fashioned bouquets of bronze daisies, orange miniature carnations, babysbreath and white pom poms, highlighted with orange straw flowers. The flower girl carried a miniature basket of assorted flowers.Mrs. Harry C. Owings(Delaine Hobbs Studio)Serving as best man was Richard Harbaugh, Union-town, friend of the groom. Head usher was Robert Owings, Westminster, brother of the groom. Other ushers were Donald Spangler, Westminster, Richard Stultz, Union Bridge; Ronnie Blacksten, Middleburg. Michael Storey, Linwood was junior usher and Jeffrey Storey, Linwood, was ring bearer. Both are nephews of the bride.Immediately following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Union Bridge fire hall for 250 guests.For the wedding trip the bride chose a beige, orange and brown crepe dress with orange accessories. She wore a corsage of fall flowers.The couple will reside near Union Bridge.The bride is a 1971 graduate of Francis Scott Key High School and La Mae Beauty School, Westminster, and is now employed as secretary at Farm and Home Service, Inc. Sykesville.The groom is a 1971 graduate of Francis Scott Key High School and is in the farming business with his father near Westminster.
