The vibrant and beautiful political speaker, author and first vice president of the National Federation of Republican Women is also a mother of six children and wife to a busy lawyer in Alton, 111.Corona women at the luncheon were openly impressed with the intelligence and energy of Mrs. Schlafly. Attending were the Mmes. J.P. Dubail, Dwight Nelson,Robert Keller, George Stanley, R. D. Orr, Fran Leverich, William Kirk, L. L. Andrews,women Inn forA. M. Root,' Jr., E. L. Bon-durant, 0. H. Schell, Jr., W. A. Shook, John L. McElroy and Robert K. Potts,With Mrs. Schlafly striking smile, health and femininity, how did she become involved in politics and with the cause of the conservatives?As she explained in a private interview in her suite following the luncheon speech for close to 300 Republican men and women, she majored in political science in college where she was Phi Beta Kappa, and has been interested ever since.Bringing up six children, which range from 10 months to 14 years old, Mrs. Schlafly requires extra help while gone, “but everyone has his chores and responsibilities” so it isn’t too hard for her to leave on speaking tours occasionally. “I also set up a schedule for everyone and because mysjiusband is busy he -doesn’t accompany me On my trips,” she explained further.Her favorite trick to keeping up her vitality on trips “is eating very little. I find I’m happier with just fresh fruit and vegetables and am very ' fond of your California orange juice,” she said.To keep elegantly groomed on tours she has several ribbon knit dresses “that are good at all occasions and never muss.” She also finds that leaving dresses on their1C- ’ 5 * 'convenespeakerhangers and hovered with plastic bag's; theh putting them in the suitcase, lets them arrive better than those packed tediously in tissues.Mrs. Schlafly-; . travels by plane with two medium sized suitcases and a hatbox. Most of her brochures and written material are shipped ahead in boxes.“I don’t have an entourage,” she laughed. Nor do any staff members fly with her.
