Eisenhower’s ban on Gl-fraulein marriages today as a measure tliat “saves German girls from humiliation.’*“A happy international marriage is impossible under present circumstances,” Ursula wrote today. “Even supposing agirl could accompany her soldier-husband to the U.S.—what then? She would not be treated well. Americans, like the rest of the world, consider German and Nazi to be synonymous.“Venereal disease is raging among Berlin girls. That has been determined by the police. But statistics are hard to collect. Before the Allies came, prostitution was under strict police control. :The Allies abolished any such control, and 9ow disease spreads in every direction.”She asserted that “nice” girls also succumbed to the craving for cigarettes and sweets which could be satisfied .only by “begging” from Allied soldiers.“It is natural for soldiers in any Army to take advantage of chance acquaintanceships,”-she added. “But it’s foolish of our girls to think of marriages with them.
