A signal bad been placed against the train but, it an is claimed, the air-brakes failed to , 1!“ work and the engine and one of the cars plunged into the river, carrying r' the euigneer, Eugene Andrews, with *u* them.‘lt;l The engineer escaped with a broken leg and several scalp wounds and it y’ seems only miraculous that he was 1110 not killed. The fireman jumped and in so doing struck several obstructions and had bis skull fractured. The0,1 unfortunate men were taken to Glen* ,r‘‘ vilie where they received medical care.r ^Traffic was delayed for several hours U(* on account of the wreck. A large irt number from this place and from the immediate vicinity went to view the wreck.
