Leopold, extension home management specialist at the University of Nebraska.Any paint you have on hand or might buy probably will contain a lead base, which would poison the child if he chewed on it. Reputable manufacturers of children’s goods are careful to use paint not containing lead. .So if youngsters chew the original paint off it won’t hurt them, but if they chew off a coat of paint you add, it might be disastrous.
