Pleasant.HIS BKIDE SEES THE MATOH.Mrs. lleckwith Choors the Iowa Wesleyan Team on to Success—Keokuk Medicals Never Get Near the Goal—Score Staucls 48 to O.Mt. Pleasant, In., Nov. 17.—“Oh, I kuew he could doit.” It was Jessie Liucolu Beckwith, whose exclamation of delight caught the attention of tho big crowd out to witness the football game between Iowa Wesleyan and the Keokuk Medicals. For Warren Wallace Beckwith, Wesleyan’s half back, had just made a 40-yard dash around the left end of the big Medics nnd scored the first touch down for Iowa Wesleyans. Beckwith, inspired by the presence of his young bride, daughter of Robert T. Lincoln, put up a game of football that had never been equaled in this city. Whether the rest of the team was inspired by the same fair presence is not known, but the big fellows from Keokuk, flushed with recent victories aud averaging 20 pounds per man heavier than Iowa Wesleyan, went down to defeat. At the end of the game the score stood 4$ to 0 in favor of Iowa Weyleyan, aud over half of the points were gathered in by Beckwith alone. At the end of fhe game he was lifted to the shoulders of the howling mob of enthusiasts and carried off the field.There was a big crowd of enthusiastic spectators, but none more so than the daughter of ex-Secretary of War Lincoln.
