500 Yanks a Month Wed German GirlsFRANKFURT, Nov. 15 CAP)— Americans are marrying German girls at the record rate of 500 a month, U.S. consulate records have disclosed.Never since the postwar ban on. German - American weddings was lifted in 1947 have so many couples representing these former enemy nations marched to the altar in such numbers. The - edding rate 13 twice tis high as last year and even far above the rate during the rush which followed the lifting of the marriage ban in 1947.The explanation appears simple:1-^-There are more American troops here how than at any period since German - American weddings were permitted*2—Many American soldiers are now completing their overseas tours of duty and being returned to the U.S. They marry shortly before they start home..The marriage rate is reflected by the number of visas issued German girls for admittance to the U.S. as wives of American citizens. An average of 500 such visas are being issued every month by U.S. consulates in Germany. Last year the rate was about half that, with o total of 3,039 issued during the entire year.
