Vahey-ElliottThe breath-taking beauty and dignity of the First Presbyterian church of LaGrange, with candlelight and floral decorations, furnished the setting for the marriage of Miss Suzanne B. Elliott to Jim W. Vahey on Saturday night, Nov. 3, with the Rev. Henry Andersen officiating.For many of the guests at the ceremony, this was the first visit to the new church building, which was opened within the last month.As the guests were arriving for the ceremony a prelude recital of organ music was played by James Thomas. Nancy Schaper, a cousin of the bride, was the vocal soloist.Suzanne, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Reo. V. Elliott, 740 S. Waiola ave., LaGrange, entered the church with her father who gave her in marriage. She was preceded to the altar by four attendants, wearing becoming floor length gowns of emerald green deluna satin fashioned on slim straight lines with rounded neckline, short sleeves and watteau back.Mrs. Jack (Gayle); Handley served as matron of honor .and the bridesmaids were Mrs. Kenneth (Nancy) Eldridge, sister of the bridegroom, Mrs. James (Marjie) Jobes, Miss Nancy Blue and Miss Mary Frey.The bride’s elegant gown was of a light ivory taffeta, fashioned on classic lines with a tightly fitted bodice of alencon lace, scalloped square neckline and long pointed sleeves.The bell skirt with cummerbund waistline had a detachable bouffant chapel length train. A silk French illusion veil was caught up' in a wreath of orange blossoms and the bridal bouquet was of lily of the valley and butterfly roses. jThe bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold M. Vahey, 918 Floral dr., Grand Rapids, Mich, and a large number of guests came from that city. His best man was Thomas Vogt and the Ushers were Robert DeYoung, William Allen, John Jamison, Franklin Gregory and Kenneth Eldridge. . •. Both mothers chose blue gowns for the occasion, Mrs. Elliott wearing a sea blue satin with white orchids, and Mrs. Vahey, royal blue chiffon and cymbidiums.Following the ceremony a reception was held at the LaGrange Country club. Friends who assisted were Mrs. Ronald Pullen, Mrs. Janies Soukup and Mrs. William Sevetson.The bridal couple will be at hom'e in Grand Rapids, Mich., after Thanksgiving, following a honeymoon in Mexico City -and Acapulo.The bride is a graduate of Lyons Township high school and received her B.S. degree in education from Indiana university in 1959. She is a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority.The bridegroom attended Kenyon college and is a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He is associated with the Aetna Insurance company.
